From this mami to mommy-to-be, M.I.A. deserves big ups for a proud and memorable performance at the Grammy‘s this weekend. The 9-month prego Grammy nominee braved a live performance with Kanye West, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne on award night, which coincidentally fell on her due date, February 8. My girls and I watched as she chanted–and waddled–along to the Rap Pack’s “Swagger Like Us,” which samples M.I.A.’s Grammy-nominated “Paper Planes.”

I, for one, was glad to see M.I.A. do her thing. I’ve totally been there–twice.

As some of you may know, I DJed thru a few months of my pregnancies and sat in on a photo shoot for a 002 Magazine cover literally days before I gave birth. For a split second during each pregnancy I thought of hiding away and putting things on hold. Then I reconciled, “I’m creating life and there’s nothing wrong with that.” If anything, showcasing femininity in all its forms, is not only encouraging to see but also it’s a celebration of life. I hope one day my girls will appreciate me for it.

So, yes, congrats, M.I.A. Keep on doin’ that there!
