Lacee lookin fierce

I know some of you drum & bass nerds have been waiting for a lineup (and photo spread) like this! Well, our DIRB! crewmate SDF-One has finally made it happen–female DJs at Heavy DNB.

Tonight’s lineup includes a Texas round-up of up-and-coming ladies that are down with d&b. Lacee, Lucki Junglette and Baby Ruthless (whom I played alongside in Austin last summer) join forces with TDBZ, Page and SDF-One at the Back Room (3718 Main Street).

With beats as heavy as d&b and enough moxy to play with the boys, these girls should quell any doubts about gimmicky all-female DJ lineups.

YO! I played out in Dallas this weekend for the Hands Up party and got a little press while I was out there. 

Thanks to The Party in Dallas–Nature, Sober & Gail–for their gracious hospitality and to the Dallas folks for dancing their ass off. I loved your energy. You really made this girl feel at home!

This time The Party presents Houston’s Gracie Chavez who is a DJ, mother, music writer, and veteran of Houston’s club scene. This weekend Dallas is gonna get that “trato especial” for real as Hands Up hosts Htown’s finest Gracie Chavez this Saturday @ The Loft.

We were lucky enough to meet Gracie a few months back as The Party started picking up steam in Houston, but the word had been out on this girl WAY before we ever started at Boondocks. With 10 years behind the decks, fresh off the RockBox gig and already mixing it up with her Ruff Cut monthly, this girl is obviously a seasoned OG!! The YO! Mami mix that scored 10,000 downloads in a day kinda spoke for itself alittle something too… Gracie’s got the city hot!

We got together earlier this week for a little back and forth. Here’s what she had to say about Rock Box, Htown, being a mom, and whatever else came to mind…

So we’re all very excited to have you playing with us at Hands Up.  Can you tell us a bit about yourself, where you live now, where you grew up, what crews or affiliates you are part of?

This one seems so appropriate for Les Femmes‘ Finale tonight that I may even open with it. I just got the new Cuizi for you via Mad Decent, thanks to the Genevan Heathen featuring Orgasmic on the beat and former former BDRr Marina too.

FRI, MAY 16 will be THE VERY LAST Les Femmes! Resident DJs Gracie Chavez, Jessica Lozano & Jessica Partin spin at Dean’s one last time for Les Femmes ever!

This is a monthly I’ve been doing for the last three years to get more ladies on the scene. I’d say that it has worked gorgeously. This grand finale will showcase Houston’s top female DJs and vocalist all under one roof for one night. Hope to see a lot of you out there!
